Blackburn Rovers forward Benedict McCarthy feels that, despite trailing United by nine points, Chelsea will once again lift the Premiership trophy this season. The South African international worked with Blues manager Jose Mourinho during his time at Porto.

Blackburn Rovers forward Benedict McCarthy has tipped Chelsea for Premiership glory this season.

The Blues currently sit nine points behind table-topping United as we enter the 'business end' of the campaign. However, the South African international is convinced that the London club will close the gap on Sir Alex Ferguson's men and secure a third successive league crown. McCarthy worked under Jose Mounrinho at FC Porto and believes that, despite rumours of unrest in the Stamford Bridge backroom, the Chelsea boss will add another trophy to his impressive list of honours.

"Chelsea are my first favourites to win this season," said McCarthy

 "Mourinho has been there and done it. He knows the smallest details of the opposition - that's what he does best and his teams aren't surprised."

Chelsea's next Premiership outing is the crucial visit to our rivals Manchester City next Wednesday. Defeat at Eastlands would surely end the Blues' realistic hopes of ousting the Red Devils from top spot?
