Manchester United will play Chelsea in this year’s F.A Cup final.
The big-spending Londoners secured a 2-1 victory over Blackburn at Old Trafford on Sunday to book a ticket to the brand-spanking new Wembley Stadium.
Frank Lampard put Chelsea ahead on 16 minutes but Mark Hughes’ men battled back to restore parity after half-time thanks to Jason Roberts. Rovers then looked the more likely to bag a winner as the game headed into extra-time; but Chelsea had too much in the latter stages as Michael Ballack lashed home an effort with 109 minutes on the clock.
Chelsea’s win also confirms United’s participation in the Community Shield this August. The two teams will again do battle for the pre-season curtain raiser in a mouth-watering opener to the 2007/2008 campaign.
