Owen Hargreaves is set to complete a £18million move to Manchester United. The England international has been a long-term target for Sir Alex Ferguson and is now on the verge of becoming the club's first new signing of the summer. The Bayern Munich star will pen a four-year deal with the club when the big-money transfer is confirmed.

Manchester United are rumoured to be closing in on a deal that will bring Owen Hargreaves to Old Trafford.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been a long-term target for United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and reports suggest that a £18million deal is now on the verge of completion.

Hargreaves' departure is part of a massive clear-out exercise at Bayern; with the German club set to make wholesale changes as they look to build on this season's very disappointing fourth placed finish.

"All I can say is that there will be changes in every area of the team, some players will come and some players will go." said Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

The fact that United have been so quick to add to their squad after the end of the domestic campaign suggests there is a real desire within the club to build on this season's Premier League triumph. Fergie recently told the press that the club would be looking to bring in three top signings over the summer - and Hargreaves would seemingly be the first of these new recruits.

The 26-year-old will apparently sign a four-year deal with United when the transfer is completed.
