Shock reports are suggesting that Wales boss John Toshack was on the verge of dropping Ryan Giggs from his squad. The 33-year-old has just announced his retirement from the international game; but was the Manchester United star about to be frozen out by the controversial Toshack?

Shock reports are claiming that John Toshack was relieved to see Ryan Giggs retire from international football as he was scared to tell the left-winger he was dropped from the team.

The Welsh captain made his final international appearance on Saturday in a 0-0 draw with the Czech Republic. However, it is now being suggested that Giggs was on the verge of being dropped from the Welsh squad.

Toshack is regularly criticised by many Welsh supporters for his often bizarre team selection. The former Liverpool forward axed Robbie Savage, Ben Thatcher and John Oster since taking charge of his country for a second time; and speculation is suggesting that it apparently wasn't long before Giggs became the next casualty of the Welsh national team.

The 33-year-old retired from international football after admitting he was finding it physically difficult to combine his Welsh duties with the strain of club football at Manchester United.
