Cristiano Ronaldo scored two more goals to secure three points as United swept aside their Lancastrian rivals with a good overall performance. Two goals late in the first half within two minutes of each other put the game beyond doubt. Once Dunn had been senty off in the secon half all the Rovers players could hope for was damage limitation.

Sir Alex has been quoted in the press saying that the current squad is the best he has assembled in 21 years. Some praise that after what many of us witnessed in the Glorious Nineties, and we'll see what they can deliver over the coming months and years.
