Carlos Tevez scored the only goal of the game at Anfield to give Manchester United another victory on Merseyside. In front of the Kop late in the first half the Argentinian stabbed home Wayne Rooney's firmly struck free kick. Liverpool had much more possession in the second half but could not break down the United defence and three points took United back to the top of the table .
