GM Police praise fan behaviour after Rome fears

Greater Manchester Police have heaped praise on the United fans that travelled to Rome for the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final. United's last two trips to the Olympic Stadium have been marred by ugly scenes of crowd violence; but Tuesday’s game passed relatively peacefully.

Three United fans were stabbed at the knock-out game in Rome a year ago, whilst there were twenty-one arrests at Old Trafford as fans scuffled outside the stadium. Four United fans were jailed when the two teams met in the group stages this season.

However, Tuesday's game seems to have passed without incident and the GMP appear very pleased with the conduct of the travelling contingent.

There was a massive Police presence in Rome with riot vans on guard outside the stadium. Thankfully, the fans behaved themselves and the evening will be remembered for United's impressive 2-0 win.
