Ole off to a winning start at Burscough

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got off to a winning start as manager of Manchester United's second-string with a 3-1 win at Burscough. Goals from Tom Cleverley, Fabian Brandy and Rodrigo Possebon were enough to give the Red Devils the win - though the hosts caused United a few problems and won consolation thanks to a late David Brookes strike.

As United's first-team were winning 2-0 at Aberdeen, new reserve-team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of his first game in a friendly match at non-league Burscough.

The Red Devils took the lead after just seven minutes as Cleverley fired home a neat effort; with Brandy extending the lead before half-time.

The result was put beyond reasonable doubt just after the hour mark as Brazilian youngster Possebon smashed a special effort from 25-yards - but luckless Burscough gave their fans something to cheer as Brookes poked home a late strike for the home side.

The Linnets gave a decent account of themselves - but Ole will be pleased with how his players dealt with the newly-promoted Conference North club. United reserves continue their pre-season preparations next weekend against neighbours Altrincham.
