Keane asks Fergie for Saha loan

Reds legend Roy Keane is rumoured to be eyeing-up a summer swoop for United forward Louis Saha. The Sunderland boss is desperate to bring new attacking talent to the Stadium of Light – and is hoping that Sir Alex Ferguson will let the Frenchman move to the North East in a three-month loan deal.

Saha's future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months.

The 29-year-old has never matched his billing since a high-profile £12.75million move from Fulham some four years ago.

The player is desperate to fight for his place - but Ferguson is losing patience with the forward who has proved consistently injury prone since his arrival at Old Trafford.

Saha has netted 42 goals for United in 124 appearances - though 48 of those who have been from the bench. Therefore, he is clearly a player with the potential to do well but Ferguson will want more reliability from his frontmen.

Keane is desperate to add another goalscorer to his ranks - with Michael Chopra linked with a move away from the club. Reports suggest that the ex-United star wants to sign Saha on an initial three-month loan deal.

Any move could hinge on United's own activity on the transfer market. Newspaper reports are, once again, suggesting that the club are desperate to land Dimitar Berbatov - and a successful swoop for the Spurs ace could confirm Saha's exit.
