Wayne Rooney's first-half strike gave United a crucial victory over bitter rivals Manchester City at Eastlands. The Red Devils dominated the opening period before Rooney broke the deadlock on 42 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo was shown red for a bizarre hand-ball on 68 minutes - but United were almost always comfortable and held on for a crucial three points in the title race.
