Edwin van der Sar has gone back on his decision to retire at the end of the season by signing a new contract with Manchester United. The towering Dutch ‘keeper has penned a one-year extension which will keep him at the club until 2010. The 38-year-old joined United from Fulham in 2005.
Veteran ‘keeper van der Sar has had an awesome few years at United and has already won two league titles and a European Cup with the club.
He retired from the international scene after Euro 2008 - only to make a short, two-match return - and hinted that this season would be his last in professional football.
However, the former Fulham man has penned a new one-year extension which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2009/2010 season - a few months shy of his 40th birthday.
Despite intense competition from Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak, van der Sar has held onto United's number one jersey and is still regarded as one of Europe's finest goalkeeping talents.
Saturday's clash at White Hart Lane will be his 162nd for the club.
