United confirm arrival of young Serbian pair

Manchester United have announced the capture of two Serbian youngsters. 21-year-old Zoran Tosic and 17-year-old Adem Ljajic have both penned deals from Partizan Belgrade. No fee has been announced but Sir Alex Ferguson is rumoured to have splashed out a combined £16million for the duo’s services.

Tosic has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for sometime. However, the deal appeared to be in doubt after reports stated the player had rejected a contract offer from the club.

Arsenal and rivals Man City were apparently preparing to swoop - but United have now agreed a deal with the youngster who will immediately link-up with his new team mates.

Tosic is a versatile attacking-minded player who can play on the left-flank or operate as an attacking midfielder. He's already notched up twelve caps for his country and has been a regular goalscorer for Partizan since joining the club in 2007.

Speaking about the acquisition of Tosic, Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We've been watching him for over a year.

"He's now a regular in the Serbian national side but we'll give him time - he'll need time to adjust to the training and the tempo of our game but hopefully he'll prove a good signing.

"He could play for the first-team before the end of the season. He'll need a month to gain his fitness and be ready. He hasn't played since December 10^th, but once he gets to the pace of things then I think he could play a part."

United have also agreed a deal to sign Adem Ljajic. However, due to work permit regulations, the player will be loaned straight back to Partizan. He'll link-up with the club in twelve months time.
