United youngsters crush Newcastle Town

A youthful Manchester United reserve side swept aside Newcastle Town on Monday evening. The Red Devils demolished the North West Counties League side 7-1 in a hastily-arranged fixture at the Lyme Valley Stadium in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Robbie Brady bagged a hat-trick, Cameron Stewart scored twice, with Ferderico Macheda and Joe Dudgeon also hitting the target.
This friendly encounter was arranged at short notice. Newcastle Town took advantage of their excellent relationship with MUFC to arrange the fixture after their competitive fixture last Saturday was postponed.
Brady opened the scoring after thirteen minutes before Dudgeon doubled the advantage before the half-hour mark. Macheda then put United three goals up before the break.
Newcastle Town fans were promised a United reserve-side - but the Reds played an Academy line-up. Paul McGuinness was in charge - and a host of Under-16 youngsters were introduced after the interval.
United's dominance continued in the second-half. Brady netted his second-goal of the evening shortly after the hour-mark before the Irishman completed his hat-trick three minutes later. Smith's free-kick was consolation for the home side, before Stewart bagged two late goals to seal a comfortable rout for United.
This was the fourth time United have played a friendly match at Newcastle Town. The Reds are happy to visit the Lyme Valley Stadium, thanks mainly to the work of 72-year-old groundsman Colin Spender and his award-winning playing surface.
