As United romped to a five-star victory at the Hawthorns, FC United of Manchester secured three crucial points of their own. The Red Rebels sealed a 2-0 win against Leigh Genesis in the first match played at Leythers' impressive new Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Sale Way. Jerome Wright and Jamie Baguely bagged the goals.

The travelling FC contingent made up the majority of the 1,302 as Leigh Genesis played the first game at their new home.

Leigh have suffered a horrendous slide in recent years and attract minimal home support. The club hope that their move to the new Sports Village will help resurrect their fortunes - but FC had little difficulty in brushing aside the former Conference club.

Wright netted the first ever goal at the £1.75million ground, which will also host Leigh Centurions RLFC, with a fantastic long-range effort. The points were sealed on 69 minutes as Baguley hit a fine long-range effort.

The result leaves the Red Rebels seventh in the Northern Premier League. The breakaway club, established by disaffected United fans in 2005, are only one point behind the play-offs and optimism is building that FC can launch a realistic bid for a third successive promotion and a shot at Conference North football.
