Could Ronaldo return to Manchester United?

Sir Alex Ferguson has refused to rule out a future return to the Manchester United playing staff for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese winger became the world’s most expensive player when he quit Old Trafford for Real Madrid in a £80million move – but Fergie thinks the player could return to the Theatre of Dreams in the future.

Ronaldo made 292 appearances for United during a six-year stay with the club. He bagged an incredible 118 goals for United, including 42 during the 2007/2008 season, and left Old Trafford as World Player of the Year.

However, the player was rarely shy to express his desire to eventually join Real Madrid - and the long-winded, protracted transfer saga finally came to an end this summer as the player swapped the North West for Spain in a record-breaking £80million switch.

Sir Alex Ferguson has wished the player good luck with Madrid - but isn't sure that United fans have seen the last of the player in the famous red jersey.

"He may come back, you never know. Sometimes it happens that way. He loved United. If you look back at the six years he had with us, he never missed training." said the United boss.

Fergie went onto admit that Ronaldo will prove a "massive loss" to United and described the player as the "best player in the world...better than Kaka and...Messi".

Ronaldo made his Real Madrid debut on Tuesday evening in a pre-season friendly against Shamrock Rovers. The winger had a poor 45 minutes against the Irish outfit and was jeered throughout the tightly-fought contest which Madrid eventually won 1-0.
