7,480 were at Kenilworth Road as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer led a Manchester United XI to a narrow pre-season victory. The result marks the latest in impressive pre-season results for the club’s second-string this summer.
Solskjaer has watched his young guns beat AFC Fylde and Rochdale and draw with Norwich City so far - and will be pleased to have watched an inexperienced Reds XI beat Conference club Luton.
United got off to a tremendous start. Febian Brandy broke the deadlock in the opening minute as he latched onto a through ball from Tom Cleverley and slotted a nice finish home.
The advantage was doubled only eight minutes later from the penalty spot. The roles were revered as a foul on Brandy handed United a penalty and Cleverley stroked the ball home.
The Hatters, however, were back in the game only six minutes later. A poor clearance from Magnus Wolff Eikrem gave Asa Hall the chance to fire home.
A physical Luton side continued to threaten an equaliser and were unlucky not to get it - but United's early show proved enough as Solskjaer's men continue to impress on their pre-season travels. Next up are local rivals Altrincham.
