A Manchester United side will be in action at Fir Park on Sunday, taking on Motherwell. The two sides will compete for the Sir Matt Busby Shield in a game set to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Scot's birth.
Busby, who
passed away in 1994, is widely regarded as one of Britain's best and most successful
football managers of all time.
His first
spell in charge of United was between 1945 and 1969. He famously rebuilt the
side after the Munich Air Tragedy in 1958, securing European Cup glory ten
years later with a 4-2 win over Benfica at Wembley.
Busby was
born one century ago - and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of
his birth, a Manchester United XI will take on Motherwell at Fir Park
on Sunday.
Fir Park is near
Busby's home town of Bellshill
and all proceeds raised from the game will go towards a scholarship programme
in Busby's name.
Despite
the good cause, it's unlikely that Sunday's fixture will live long in the
memory in terms of the football on show. Many of United's biggest names are on
international duty and, though Sir Alex Ferguson will be in the dugout, it's
likely to be a team made up of youngsters.
