Scousers dump United out off Lancashire Cup

Poor finishing was to blame as Manchester United crashed out of the Lancashire Senior Cup at the first hurdle on Thursday evening. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's second-string crash out of the competition on penalty kicks, ending their recent dominance of the tournament.

762 were at Moss Lane as Nathan Eccleston gave the visitors a somewhat fortuitous lead in the first-half.

United bossed proceedings throughout, but had to wait until the 72nd minute to draw level through Zoran Tosic's fantastic free-kick.

Some poor finishing denied United the chance to win the game in normal time, whilst a foul in the box on Tosic had the young Reds side screaming for a penalty that wasn't given.

The tie went to penalty kicks, and whilst Kiko Macheda, Fabien Brandy and Tosic all obliged from the spot, Matt James and Ritchie de Laet missed as the Scousers claimed a 4-3 win.
