It wasn't a vintage performance but it was a very important victory in the quest for a record breaking fourth consecutive title and the possible 19th league crown. Paul Scholes grabbed his 100th premiership goal deep into the second half to break the deadlock and take all three points back up the M6 to Old Trafford. The travelling fans twirled their scarves as the team went back to the top...

Speaking after the match Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said - "We deserved the win, no question. They had an outstanding chance at the end but the lad didn't take it. Our form is good and we're managing without some players, which is important at this time of year. And we have players coming back - that was the first time that back four has played together for a year and a half." 

United were without Wayne Rooney who injured himself playing foir England and Michael Owen who is out for the rest of the season, but welcomed back Rio Ferdinand in the defence with Vidic.

The stage is set for the AC Milan match on Wednesday and the reyuen of David Beckham, get your scarves ready it should be an emotional evening.
