Manchester United 4 v AC Milan 0

Manchester United booked their place in the quarter finals of this years Champions League with a 4-0 victory over AC Milan, but it might have been different early on. However, a great time was had by all.....

In truth, 4-0 was an extremely flattering scoreline. Had Milan opened the scoring, you get the distinct impression that the evening could have had a somewhat different flavour.

However, United fans sat back and watched their heroes frustrate Milan and score four unanswered goals as the Red Devils bagged a 7-2 aggregate victory. Trailing, somewhat harshly, 3-2 from the first-leg, Milan knew they had a mountain to climb as they looked to bounce back at Old Trafford. Leonardo resisted the temptation to start Reds legend David Beckham – but his Milan side still started well and created a handful of early opportunities.

The Italians, however, were constantly frustrated. United’s defence was well organised and Milan’s finishing was wayward. Ronaldinho can, at times, produce skill of staggering performance – but his refusal tot rack back and not help his team-mates was costly, and his lethargic attitude helped United in the build-up to the game’s opener on twelve minutes.

Gary Neville rolled back the years with a superb cross which Wayne Rooney guided home with yet another stunning headed goal. The England frontman has never been famed for his aerial prowess but his recent form with his head as been nothing short of jaw-dropping.

 Once in front the result of the match and the tie was never in doubt, after the break the gren and gold scarves were rewarded with more goals from Rooney, JS Park and Darren Fletcher.

David Beckham came on as a substitute to a superb reception and at the end of the match went off wearing a Newton Heath scarf. A superb evening.
