Scholes will play no part in England's Euro 2012 qualifiers

Despite recent speculation, Paul Scholes has confirmed that he has no plans to make an international comeback. The 35-year-old midfielder hasn't donned the England jersey since 2004 after announcing an early exit from the international scene.

Rumours have suggested that Scholes could play some part in England's qualifying campaign for the 2012 European Championships, after Fabio Capello's midfielders failed to perform at the recent World Cup finals in South Africa.

However, a source close to the veteran midfield is reported to have told the press that Scholes "has no intention of returning to the England fold now".

Scholes was asked to come out of international exile over the summer and play a role in England's World Cup campaign. At the time, however, Scholes said that Capello had not given him "enough time to think about it".

Speaking in June, he added: "If they’d asked me earlier I probably would have accepted. But there are players in the squad who have spent nearly two years flying all around the world helping England qualify for the World Cup, whereas I haven’t been involved for a long time."

The Salford-born star, who has 66 caps to his name, has enjoyed an excellent start to the new Premier League season and was instrumental during United's recent 3-0 demolition of Newcastle United.
