United march on in Europe with Bursaspor win

Manchester United are on the verge of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Champions League following an important 3-0 win in Bursaspor on Wednesday evening. The Red Devils' superiority told after the interval as goals from Darren Fletcher, Gabriel Obertan and Tiago Bebe ultimately ensured an easy win for United in Turkey.

With the travelling United fans separated from the game by a layer of mesh netting, a hostile night looked on the cards for Sir Alex Ferguson's men. 

Bursaspor's supporters never stopped singing throughout – and the unfancied home side really tested United during the opening period; before the Reds' superiority shone through after the half-time break. 

Edwin van der Sar did well to block Turgay Bahadir's first-half effort, but United stepped up their game after the interval and broke the deadlock with 48 minutes on the clock. 

Darren Fletcher's low drive opened the scoring before French wing-man Obertan latched onto Ji-Sung Park's through ball and dispatched a cool finish from just outside the penalty box on 73 minutes. 

Four minutes later, United made it three goals. Highly-rated youngster Bebe had been on the pitch only 15 minutes when he found the net as he took advantage of some excellent build-up play from Paul Scholes. 

The result leaves United with ten points from four European outings. Ferguson's side have won their last three matches in the Cup and look certain to progress to the knock-out stages once again.

In the group's other game, Glasgow Rangers suffered a 3-0 reverse at Valencia which leaves the Ibrox club with a mountain to climb if they are to progress furter. The SPL Champions now look likely to move into the Europa League.
