On-loan Manchester United ‘keeper Ben Amos had a howler as Oldham Athletic suffered a 6-0 thumping at home to Southampton on Tuesday evening. With Sir Alex Ferguson watching from the stands, the youngster allowed a long-range Adam Lallana effort to creep under his legs in embarrassing fashion as he leaked six goals at Boundary Park.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rickie Lambert, Guly do Prado, Richard Chaplow and Lee Barnard all found the net as the Saints ran riot in the North West.
20-year-old Amos had a difficult ninety minutes; with his howler gifting the visitors their second goal in a one-sided contest.
The game will have brought Amos back down to Earth with a bump after he claimed a clean sheet in his club debut against Swindon Town last weekend.
Sir Alex was a spectator at Boundary Park – and Amos will know that he will need to produce some much-improved displays if he to impress the fiery Scot.
The game also gave the United boss a chance to watch Southampton, whom United take on in a tricky fourth round F.A Cup tie at the St.Mary’s Stadium

He is gunna make some errors in his career, thats all part of the learning process. If anything you could say that it was good for the lad, make sure he doesnt get too ahead of himself, though lets hope he learns from this and doesnt take it to heart too much
