Valencia signs new contract with United

Antonio Valencia has signed a new four-year deal at Manchester United. The former Wigan player has said he is "delighted" to have agreed terms on a new contract with the club.

Valencia's recent development with the club has been hampered with injury problems.

He made only eight starts last season and was out of action for the recent pre-season tour in the USA.

Sir Alex Ferguson, however, regards the 25-year-old as a pivotal plank in the club's future and has agreed a deal to keep him at the club until 2015.

The United boss said: "Antonio has made a fantastic contribution since his arrival. His speed, crossing ability and versatility have been a big asset for us.”
