Barsei names Giggs in Greatest XI

Welsh international Ryan Giggs has been named in AC Milan legend Franco Baresi’s greatest ever XI. The 38-year-old is named amongst a mouth-watering midfield quartet including Luis Figo, Frank Rijkaard, and Zinedine Zidane.

Baresi, himself voted AC Milan ‘Player of the Century’ in 1999, included Giggs in his all-time XI for FourFourTwo Magazine’s January 2012 edition.

The Welsh international was the only British player to make the XI, and the only player in the team with Manchester United connections.

Speaking of the 38-year-old, Baresi said: "He is so intelligent - you notice that from where he runs."

"He's covered every midfield role, but I think he prefers the left side. He is a joy for everybody's eyes...except, of course the opponents."

Giggs was named alongside Figo, Rijkaard and Zidane in an exciting midfield quartet.

The full XI was as follows:  Gianluigi Buffon, Cafu, Paulo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, Frank Rijkaard, Zinedine Zidane, Ryan Giggs, Diego Maradona, Marco Van Basten.

Veteran winger Giggs was once linked with a move to the San Siro to play for Milan, but ultimately stayed at United. He has made 889 appearances for the club in a stunning career.
