Arsenal's very slim aspirations of challenging for the Premier League title took a major blow on Bank Holiday Monday with a tea time defeat at Fulham. Bobby Zamora struck late to secure victory for the Cottagers, who staged an amazing comeback during the game’s final five minutes.
Victory at Craven Cottage would have seen Arsenal close the gap on the table-topping Manchester clubs down to only six points.
The Gunners had suffered only one defeat out of 12 league games before Monday’s fixture, looking like a totally different team to the one that got thrashed 8-2 at Old Trafford in late August.
Laurent Koscielny's header put Arsenal ahead mid-way through a first-half which they dominated, but Martin Jol’s men staged a fine second-half fightback.
Steve Sidwell looked to have rescued a point for the hosts on 85 minutes, before Zamora’s late goal turned the contest on its head.
Arsenal remain fifth in the table, one point behind Chelsea and three points behind bitter rivals Spurs.
Swansea City, Stoke, Norwich and Chelsea were the other winners during a busy Bank Holiday Monday of Premier League action.
