Are fans starting to favour Lindegaard as number one?

If ManUtdWeb’s poll is anything to go by, Manchester United fans seem to be shifting their favour towards Anders Lindegaard as debate continues regarding who should be the Red Devils’ number one goalkeeper. The Danish stopper has closed the gap on David De Gea in recent weeks as he has become increasingly involved in first-team affairs.

As we write, 50% of voters have picked De Gea – with 41.67% of fans feeling that Lindegaard should get the nod over the Spaniard.

That figure shows a significant shift of opinion, with De Gea’s whopping lead being pegged back significantly after recent developments.

A string of high-profile errors means De Gea has come in for some fierce media criticism, and Sir Alex Ferguson has increasingly selected Lindegaard for matches.

Lindegaard has been in action against Newcastle, Manchester City and Bolton since the turn of the year, whilst De Gea has been left to warm the bench.

De Gea has kept 6 clean sheets from 19 United appearances this season, and critics have questioned his £18.9million price tag.

The player has been given the full backing of Sir Alex Ferguson and has remained defiant that he will become a club legend – but 6”4 Dane Lindegaard is the favourite to start Sunday’s Premier League clash at Arsenal.

Presently, 8.33% believe Tomasz Kuszczak should be United’s first-choice goalkeeper. The Polish stopper has not made a single appearance this season, and is reportedly anxious to walk away from the Theatre of Dreams.
