Out for the season

Darren Fletcher has been ruled out of action until the end of the current season, as a dehabilitating illness continues to affect the Scotsman. The midfielder has not played since November due to a chronic bowl complaint, but recent reports had suggested that he could be set to return to action before the end of the campaign.

Speculation had indicated that Fletcher was making good progress and could play some role in United’s hunt for silverware this season.

Fletcher’s last United appearance was in November, when he scored a goal against Benfica. News broke shortly afterwards that he was suffering from a serious abdominal problem, and would spent an extended period on the sidelines.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Fletcher will spent the rest of the season recovering.

"I don't expect Fletcher to come back," said the United boss.

"Darren will be out for the season."

The 27-year-old, who has spent his entire professional career at United, has made 10 United appearances this season.
