Evans hoping to start on Sunday after four clean sheets

Jonny Evans is hoping to keep his place in the Manchester United team as the Red Devils take on Arsenal on Sunday. The Northern Irish international partnered Rio Ferdinand at the heart of United’s defence for the win against Bolton, but Sir Alex Ferguson has Phil Jones and Chris Smalling back available for the trip to North London.

The 25-year-old’s last four appearances for United have all seen the Red Devils keep clean sheets, against Bolton, Wigan, Fulham and QPR.

Evans will be hoping to continue this trend at Ashburton Grove on Sunday, but the return to fitness of Jones and Smalling puts his starting berth in some doubt.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the game, Evans said: "I missed a couple of games over the New Year period but I felt good against Bolton. Hopefully I can play again at the weekend,"

Evans has made 21 appearances for United this season, picking up five yellow cards and one red card.
