Everton peg back United as Reds stumble in title race

Steven Pienaar's late equaliser and ManchesterCity's win at Wolves means the title race has been blown wide open. Effectively, the destiny of the league championship is now in the hands of both Manchester clubs after United failed to beat Everton at Old Trafford, drawning an entertaining game four goals apiece. 

Nikica Jelavic's header gave Everton a surprise lead, before United stormed back with goals from Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Nani.

Marouane Fellani's volley reduced the deficit to a single goal to the delight of the travelling fans, before Rooney's second made it 4-2 and appeared to have sealed the win for United.

However, Everton stunned Old Trafford with two goals in the final seven minutes ensured the Toffees grabbed a deserved share of the spoils.

On 83 minutes, Jelavic seized on a defensive mix-up to secure his brace, before Pienaar turned home two minutes later, leaving Everton two points clear of bitter rivals Liverpool.

Ex-Red Devils goalkeeper Tim Howard pulled off a stunning save in the closing seconds to deny Rio Ferdinand a last-gasp winner.

Roberto Mancini's men responded to United's slip-up with a 2-0 win at Wolves, condemning Terry Connor's hapless Midlands men to relegation. Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri got the goals. 

Man City will now know if they win all three of their remaining league games, they are very likely to win the title - at the very least on goal difference. 

However, the Red Devils must remember that a draw at Eastlands would mean Sir Alex Ferguson's men needed a maximum of four points from their last two league games against Swansea and Sunderland to clinch the title.
