United lose 100 per cent UCL record in Turkey

A much-changed Manchester United side slipped to a one-goal defeat at Galatasary in the Uefa Champions League. A header from frontman Burak Yilmaz secured victory for the hosts as the Red Devils lost their 100 per cent record in this season's competition.

United made a raft of changes for the game - with only four of the team who started in the 1-0 defeat at Norwich taking to the field.

Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard, defender Rafael, midfielder Michael Carrick and striker Javier Hernandez were the four men to be retained in United's starting XI, as Sir Alex Ferguson rotated his star-studded squad.

The Manchester United manager will not have been too disappointed in the efforts of his players - but Galatasary created more opportunities and claimed maximum points as Yilmaz leapt highest from a corner to nod beyond the read of Lindegaard.

Nick Powell, who made an impressive European debut, had United's best chance as he thundered a header against the crossbar, but - despite winning eight corners - the Red Devils failed to create enough goal-scoring opportunities.

Galatasary remain neck-and-neck with Cluj, who beat Braga, for second spot in the Group. Both teams are on 7 points heading into the final round of qualifying matches, with Cluj travelling to Old Trafford in a game which is likely to see Sir Alex Ferguson rotate his squad heavily once again.
