Ferguson fuming after United denied penalty

Sir Alex Ferguson was left fuming after Manchester United were denied a second-half penalty at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon. Steve Caulker clipped Wayne Rooney in the box shortly after the England frontman came off the bench – and the Red Devils boss claims the incident was a “clear penalty”, adding that linesman Simon Beck had a “really poor game”.
Referee Chris Foy and his assistant Simon Beck ignored United’s penalty claims after Rooney fell to the ground.
United led 1-0 at the time – but ultimately had to settle for a point as USA international Clint Dempsey turned home a last-gasp equaliser.
Sir Alex Ferguson was furious that the Red Devils were not awarded the penalty, and launched a stinging attack on Beck following the score draw at White Hart Lane.
"It was a clear penalty-kick," said the Scotsman
"But there was no way the linesman was going to give that - he gave them everything. He had a really poor game.
"I am disappointed with him - we have not had a good record with him.”
The result leaves United five points clear of rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, with a crucial fourth round FA Cup clash with Fulham next up as the club's hunt for silverware continues on three fronts.
