United midfielder extends stay at Championship strugglers

Red Devils midfielder Davide Petrucci has extended his loan spell with Peterborough United until the end of the season. The 21-year-old has only notched up two appearances since moving to London Road in January, but has impressed manager Darren Ferguson, son of Sir Alex, enough to extend the deal.

Petruccci initially joined Peterborough on a month long deal and has made appearances against Hull City and Nottingham Forest.

The attack-minded midfielder joined United in 2008 and is still regarded as an excellent prospect for the future.

However, he is still yet to make his senior debut for United and has seen his progress hampered by a strings of injury problems. His loan move to the Championship strugglers could be pivotal in persuading Sir Alex Ferguson that the player has a future at Old Trafford.

The Italian has said he is "very happy" at Posh and is "pleased" to be remaining with the Championship club until the end of the season.
