Manchester United forward Robin van Persie fired home an injury-time penalty as the Netherlands left it late to salvage a 2-2 draw from their World Cup qualifier in Estonia. The result saw Louis van Gaal’s side drop points for the first time in the qualification campaign.

Arjen Robben’s stunning left-footed strike put the Dutch ahead in the early stages – but Estonia staged a fine fightback as they came agonisingly close to a surprise win.

Goals in each half from Konstantin Vassiljev ensured the Oranje dropped their first points of the campaign and placed Estonia on the brink of their first ever win over the Netherlands.

However, the visitors ensured they avoided defeat as RVP bagged a penalty in the fourth minute of injury-time, with the protesting Raio Piiroja picking up a second yellow card.

Elsewhere in the Group, Romania cruised to a 3-0 victory over Hungary, leaving them six points behind the Netherlands with three qualification games remaining. In Kayseri, Turkey easily beat Andorra 5-0.
