New England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate is hoping to help Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha return to the senior international set-up.

Zaha is to feature for the Under-21s on Monday as they face Finland, having appeared in last week's 1-0 win over Moldova in Reading.

The 20-year-old has two England caps to his name, having made his debut in November 2012 as a substitute against Sweden - and Southgate hopes to play his role in developing the international career of the former Crystal Palace man.

He said: “I think one of my strengths is dealing with young people – I’ve been through that at Middlesbrough with a lot of young players.

“And one of my jobs now, for instance, is to try to help Wilfried back into the senior squad".

Southgate described Zaha's omission from the current England senior squad as a "minor setback", but labelled him an "exciting player" whom he believes "has the talent to get back into the senior side".

Zaha made his United debut in the Community Shield victory over Wigan Athletic, but is yet to feature in a league game for the Champions. He will be hoping to get his chance when his former club visit Old Trafford on Saturday.
