Valencia assist helps Ecuador take a big step towards Brazil

Antonio Valencia set-up the only goal of the game, as Jefferson Montero’s goal helped Ecuador to a crucial World Cup qualification victory over Uruguay.

Having missed out on qualification in 2010, Ecuador are on the verge of a place in Brazil next summer.

La Tri need only one point from their final qualifier in Chile to guarantee a place at the 2014 World Cup.

Montero turned home Valencia’s cross on 30 minutes to seal a 1-0 win over Uruguay, leaving them three-points clear of the 2010 World Cup semi-finalists, who occupy the play-off spot.
