Nani in action as Portugal face play-off for World Cup spot

Nani played 90 minutes as Portugal’s hopes of qualifying automatically for the 2014 World Cup were left in tatters following a 1-1 draw with Israel.

Ben Basat’s equaliser five minutes from time cancelled out Costa’s opener and left Portugal contemplating a play-off.

Portugal sit three points behind Russia ahead of the final round of qualifiers, with a significantly poorer goal difference to boot.

Russia must lose against Azerbaijan for Portugal to have any hopes of qualifying automatically – but a tense, two-legged play-off looks likely for Nani and his countrymen.
