Saturday marked another landmark in Old Trafford’s famous history as the Theatre of Dreams played host to the largest ever crowd for an international rugby league match. Australia beat New Zealand in the World Cup Final.

74,468 were in attendance as Australia cruised to a 34-2 victory over New Zealand.

The Kangaroos cruised to victory with another resounding victory, having conceded just four points in their last five matches.

England, knocked out in the semi-finals, were the only country to cause Australia any trouble as they won every game to seal a tenth Rugby League World Cup crowd.

The packed house at Old Trafford means the stadium can boast the accolade of having hosted international rugby league’s biggest ever turnout, beating the 73,361 who attended the 1992 final at Wembley.

It was nice to be in the ground for a non United event.

Not a great game, the Aussies were too hot for the Kiwi's but a great spectacle and a great advert for the ground.
