Ex-United coach Meulensteen takes Fulham hot seat

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has taken charge of Fulham following the sacking of Martin Jol.

Jol has been dismissed as Cottagers boss following a 3-0 defeat at London rivals West Ham United on the weekend.

The West London club have suffered a turbulent start to the season and have amassed only 10 points from 13 league outings to date.

Meulensteen, 49, has taken over first-team affairs with immediate effect as Fulham prepare to face Jol’s former club Spurs on Wednesday.

His promotion comes only weeks after arriving at Craven Cottage as Head Coach.

During two spells at United, Meulensteen undertook a number of key roles, including managing the club’s Reserves and operating as first-team coach, but left the club following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

Fulham travel to Old Trafford on February 8th.
