The Jacks will visit Old Trafford on the first weekend of January, one week before returning to the Theatre of Dreams in Premier League action.
United have been paired against top-flight opposition for four years in a row, having disposed of West Ham United, Manchester City and Liverpool in recent years.
Following a difficult start to the league campaign, David Moyes will be desperate for some FA Cup cheer against the South Walian club, as United look to win the competition for the first time since 2004.
The match marks the first time that United and Swansea have met in any Cup competition.
A North London derby between Arsenal and Spurs is the pick of the third round ties, whilst elsewhere Chelsea visit Derby, Rochdale host Leeds and non-league Macclesfield host Sheffield Wednesday.
