In a fixture which Manchester United's Under-19s had to win, Nicky Butt's young side drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk at Leigh's Sport Village and have been eliminated from the Uefa Youth League.

The Red Devils struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities, and the visitors took the lead in the second-half courtesy of Olexander Zinchenko.

Ashley Fletcher, supplied by James Wilson, restored parity with four minutes to go to set up a grandstand finish, but there was no further late drama as Shakhtar progress and United crash out of the Uefa Youth League.

The competition is being run on a trial basis, and mirrors the senior Champions League tournament.

United have been eliminated having picked up two wins and a draw from their six Group A contests, with Shakhtar and pool winners Real Sociedad heading for the Round of 16.
