United legend Solskjaer off to a winning start in new job

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got off to a winning start as manager of Cardiff City with a 2-1 FA Cup victory at Newcastle United.

The Manchester United legend was appointed manager of the South Walian outfit on Tuesday – and has got off to an impressive start with a win at St. James’ Park, booking his new side a fourth round date with Bolton Wanderers.

Solskjaer, who moves to Cardiff from Norwegian outfit Molde, discussed the job opportunity with Sir Alex Ferguson prior to moving to the Premier League, but branded reports that the former United boss had advised he rejected the offer as “nonsense”.

The 40-year-old replaces Malky Mackay, who was sacked following a high-profile fall-out with Cardiff owner Vincent Tan, the man responsible for the club’s controversial rebranding exercise.

Solskjaer will undoubtedly receive a tremendous reception from United’s faithful when he returns to Old Trafford with his new side on January 28th. Now a patron of the Manchester United Supporters Trust, he bagged 128 club goals from 367 appearances for the Red Devils.
