Big names set to return as United prepare for League Cup tie

Manchester United face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening in a crucial League Cup semi-final, first-leg clash.

The Red Devils will be eager to bounce back from Sunday's FA Cup disappointment and take a significant step to the Wembley final in the first of two League Cup meetings against the Black Cats.

Having fielded an unnecessarily weekend side on the weekend, United boss David Moyes could welcome back a host of big names for the encounter.

Wayne Rooney is likely to feature in attack, whilst United's defensive resolve is set to be strengthened by the return of Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and goalkeeper David de Gea. Michael Carrick is also in line to return in midfield.

United's form in the competition, along with progression in the Champions League, has been the highlight of a disappointing season thus far.

Moyes' men have dispatched of Liverpool, Norwich City and Stoke City on their way to the last four, and are yet to concede a goal.

They face a Sunderland side currently sitting bottom of the Premier League table, but boosted by some positive results under new boss Gus Poyet. They enter the game unbeaten in five matches.

Have to say that apart from the superb vocal support from the travelling 4800 fans this was another dismal performance. No urgency no real fight and a lack of ideas, how we can possibly expect a man of 40 to keep doing a job is beyond me.

The players need to take a damn hard look at themselves, they are underperforming and the manager needs to toughen up and get it sorted.

It is very frustrating.
