Juve to offer Vidic long-term contract?

Juventus are rumoured to be stepping up their interest in Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, and could offer the centre-back a long-term deal in Italy.

The Serbian international’s present contract with United expires at the end of the season and speculation remains rife about his future.

Juve have been linked with the defender’s services for a long while and reports suggest the Turin club may seek to lure the player to Serie A with an extended contract offer.

Captain Vidic remains an integral part of United’s defensive unit, but has struggled with injuries recently and, at the age of 32, is likely to be highly receptive to protracted contract offers from potential suitors.

Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans are amongst those who Moyes can utilise at centre-back, and it remains unclear at present whether the Manchester United boss has Vidic in his longer-term plans.

The tenacious centre-half has notched up 286 appearances for United since making a £7million move to the club from Spartak Moscow in 2006.
