Red Rebels up to fifth with Ilkeston win

FC United of Manchester kept their Northern Premier League play-off ambitions firmly on track with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Ilkeston Town on Saturday.

Karl Marginson's men came from behind at Gigg Lane to take maximum points after Tyrell Waite put the visitors ahead with a header from close range.

The Red Rebels restored parity shortly afterwards as Mike Norton drilled a low shot into a crowded six-yard box and Thomas Greaves turned home.

Jerome Wright fired FCUM ahead shortly after the interval, before Greaves doubled the home side's lead to seal his brace.

Victory was secured for FC United from the penalty spot. Referee Elizabeth Simms awarded the spot-kick after Joe Maguire felled Tom Davies, and Wright sealed a brace of his own from 12 yards.

1,793 were in attendance at Bury as FC moved up to fifth in the table, occupying the final play-off spot and boasting key games in hand over many of their promotion rivals.
