Giggs' stewardship underway with big victory

Ryan Giggs' spell at the helm of Manchester United kicked off with a stylish 4-0 victory over struggling Norwich City at Old Trafford.

Opting not to select himself, interim player-boss Giggs watched on from the dugout as United secured a convincing win.

After a fairly slow start, United broke the deadlock from the penalty spot. Wayne Rooney drilled home from 12 yards after 41 minutes after Steven Whittaker bundled down Danny Welbeck.

Giggs, backed by a tremendous reception from the Old Trafford, watched his charges dominate proceedings after the interval, with Rooney doubling the lead on 48 minutes, cutting inside from the left flank and steering home a fine, long range finish.

Juan Mata was introduced from the substitutes bench - and made a huge impact with two poacher's goals to seal the win. The former Chelsea man side-footed home a Phil Jones cross, before nodding home Antonio Valencia's pass.

Javier Hernandez missed a great chance to make it 5-0, but United will be delighted with the nature of this win as Giggs gets off to an ideal start, backed passionately by the club's supporters.
