Former Manchester United frontman Giuseppe Rossi has been left out of Italy's 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup.
Rossi looked set for a place on the plane to Brazil after bagging 14 Serie A goals in 17 matches earlier in the season, but a serious leg injury disrupted the Fiorentina frontman's season.
The 27-year-old subsequently spent four months on the sidelines, and despite appearing in Italy's recent international friendly against the Republic of Ireland, has failed to make Cesare Prandelli's final cut.
Italy will take five forwards to the tournament - Milan's Mario Balotelli, Parma's Antonio Cassano, Napoli's Lorenzo Insinge and Torino duo Ciro Immobile and Alessio Cerci.
The Azzuri may have missed Rossi's firepower on Wednesday evening, however, as they slipped to a shock 1-1 international friendly draw with Luxembourg.
Rossi spent almost three years with Old Trafford, with many fans disappointed that the youngster didn't manage to make more than 14 appearances for the club, having shown considerable promise.
Italy's World Cup campaign kicks-off against England on June 14th.
