Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side left it late to secure a place in the World Cup quarter-finals, bagging two goals in the closing moments to beat Mexico 2-1.
Following a goalless opening 45 minutes, the South Americans took the lead courtesy of a stunning long-range strike from Giovani dos Santos.
However, the Dutch hit back in dramatic fashion to keep their trophy hopes alive, with former United target Wesley Sneijder levelling the scores on 88 minutes.
With six minutes of time added on, a winner always looked very possible - and the match was settled from the penalty spot with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who had replaced Robin van Persie earlier in the match, dispatching from twelve yards.
Van Gaal's men face Costa Rica in the quarter-finals, who were a little fortunate to beat Greece on penalties as their best ever World Cup run continues.
The Dutch boss will take over full responibilities at Old Trafford following the World Cup, with reports suggested this week that the 62-year-old will not take a holiday before embarking on the latest challenge in his managerial career.
