Nemanja Vidic was quickly reunited with former Manchester United team-mates as the Red Devils continued their pre-season preparations with a penalty shoot-out win over Inter Milan in Washington.
The game was decided from twelve yards after the two teams played out a goalless draw.
Despite failing to score, Louis van Gaal will be pleased with United's display, with the Red Devils dominating proceedings for long periods.
Before half-time, United went close through a Phil Jones header, before Juan Mata fired a shot inches wide of the woodwork.
After making a host of changes, United continued to look the more likely to score after the interval. Shinji Kagawa went close, and Tom Cleverley should have done better as he headed Ashley Young's cross over the bar.
Following a goalless 90 minutes, United secured two Group A points in the Guinness-sponsored International Champions Cup as they fired home five successive penalties, with Marco Andreolli's miss proving crucial for the Serie A side.
