MUFC won't win title amid lack of signings, suggests Scholes

In a powerful outburst ahead of the new season, Paul Scholes has expressed surprise United have not been more active in the transfer market and does not believe the Red Devils will win the Premier League. 

The ex-Reds midfielder is expecting the title to go to Eastlands or Stamford Bridge this season, and told the Daily Mirror that both clubs had made "decent signings".

He, however, flagged up what he deems to be a lack of transfer activity from United during the window so far, as Louis van Gaal looks to mount a challenge in his first season at the helm.

Scholes added: "I'm sure Van Gaal would have liked to have signed more players. Midfield is where I thought they might have brought in a couple,"

In leaving squad numbers 5, 7 and 9 vacant, van Gaal is expected to add names before the transfer window slams shut, but Scholes seems to think more additions should have been made by now following a string of high-profile departures.

"Remember the players they have lost - Rio, Vidic, Evra, Giggs. Massive players who have won 30 titles between them,"

Scholes also told the Daily Mirror that Van Gaal was "a bit like a mad genius", who has, "brought a bit of fear into the players, which is no bad thing".

The new boss' first real test is on Saturday as the Premier League season gets underway, with Swansea City the visitors to Old Trafford.
